1. WAVE POOL ENCLOSURE - Discussion
The Council met to discuss whether to replace the wave pool enclosure. Gary Sonntag reported that this is the last year that the present enclosure can be used, as it is worn out. It was warranteed for 3 years and we have used it for 9 years. Gary presented a video taken during the installation of the bubble in September, 1998. The video details the horrendous job to install the bubble and the number of employees and man hours necessary to complete the installation.
Gary presented brochures from the following companies, which provided information on their enclosures and the estimated costs.
Sprung Instant Structures
- Permanent frame structure - $696,022.00
- Costs could jump to $2 million if custom built to match size of current structure.
Cover-All
- Permanent steel supported structure - $188,820.00
- Additional costs for frame fittings plus labor costs.
Tensar
- Air supported structure - $164,600.00
- Other options are available.
Yeadon
- Air supported structure - $159,500.00
- Other options are available.
Open Aire
- Permanent frame structure - $1.5 million dollars
The Council discussed the pros and cons of the different structures and was against a permanent structure and felt that an air supported structure similar to our present enclosure would be the best way to go. If an air supported structure was handled and stored better than has been the practice in the past, it would last longer. Information received from the above companies indicate that it is a good idea to spray and clean the inside and outside of the membranes before they taken down for storage. In comparing the above companies, it was felt that Yeadon had the best warranty. Gary stated that Yeadon indicated they could make their structure to meet our specifications and hardware already in place.
The Council decided to defer a decision on the wave pool enclosure until after the Public Hearing on the budget for FY1999/2000 was held.
Meeting adjourned at 8:00 a.m.
