INFORMATION-CARBON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS EXPANSION BUILDING
PROJECT PRESENTED BY DAVE LEVANGER.
Dave Levanger presented this project for Carbon County. Since the
90’s Carbon County has
designed and evaluated an expansion building at the Carbon County Fairgrounds. Due to the low economy in previous
years this project has been put on hold. Commissioners are now taking a second
look at the convention center. Carbon County has an informal committee from the
community set up to review information. This building would be used to house
conventions, low impact recreations, ATV and automobile shows, possible gun
shows, fireman’s ball, mining shows etc. When the money is available there
would likely be a sports court added to accommodate indoor sports such as: basketball,
gymnastics and volleyball. The building
would be 90 x 180 feet long and accommodate 1157 people for occupancy. It may
be divided into 3 sections or one large arena. It would also have meeting room
space available for commission, citizen, fireman meetings etc. Spaces would be
available for lease. This new addition will be located next to the existing
building as an extension to the North side. Large access doors will be
available for a vehicle the size of a semi for easy access. This arena would
possibly draw people from all over Utah creating diversity within our
community, serve our citizens and give our town the appeal it needs to progress
into the future. The funding will come from the mineral lease money that comes
into Carbon County from Andarko,
Conoco and other federal leases. This building will
be approximately 4 ˝ million dollars and may be paid for in two years. The
project would not affect tax-payers. The money can only be used for transportation
and recreation projects. Eventually a trail ride would be added for the community
and tourism. This trail system would make a loop from Price to Helper and
everything in between to tie the area together. This center will capitalize on the
strengths in the area and give tourists a place to come that is inviting. The
trail road would be county road size and possibly 10 feet wide. Opening date of
this project would be approximately a year from now. Bidding will begin this
week. A new name for the fairgrounds is being considered. This is the only area
in Price that has approximately 80 acres with the access and utilities
necessary for something of this capacity. It also has space for expansion,
parking lots and works with all different venues. The maintenance annual cost
for caring for something of this size will be approximately $50,000
which includes utilities and additional staff would be hired to maintain the
fairgrounds area. Carbon County wanted to include and provide
information regarding this project and appreciate their time and concern.
