Piccolo called the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll was called with the above members present.
1. JOHNNY
BOWMAN - New Police Officer
Police Chief Aleck Shilaos reported that a committee,
consisting of himself, Councilmember Tatton, Officer Roger Taylor, and John
Daniels, reviewed the top three individuals from the last roster of qualified
candidates for the position of Police Officer.
The committee is recommending that Johnny Bowman be hired. MOTION. Councilmember Denison moved that the
recommendation be approved. Motion
seconded by Councilmember McEvoy and carried.
Mr. Bowman=s employment will begin February 1,
2005. He will enter the Police Academy
on February 14, 2005.
2. FLEXIBLE
SPENDING PLAN PROGRAM - Advance Payment Approved
Pat Larsen reported that due to employees filing insurance
claims before their deductible kicks in, the Flexible Spending Program is out
of funds. She requested permission to
advance the program $2,000.00. MOTION. Councilmember Wheeler moved that the request
be granted. Motion seconded by
Councilmember Denison and carried.
3. MAE
AGUAYO - Appointed As New Councilmember
Mayor Piccolo reported that as a City Councilmember position
was open, an ad was placed in the Sun Advocate to fill the position. Six individuals submitted their applications
and out of those six, the Council chose two final individuals. Mayor Piccolo introduced Mae Aguayo and Jay
Marshall. He asked each of them to speak
for five minutes to provide background information. Each Councilmember then asked the candidates
several questions, allowing each of them a chance to answer a question
first. The candidates then asked the
Councilmembers questions regarding their City positions and how they react to
different issues. Mayor Piccolo then
called for a vote to appoint candidate
Mae Aguayo. Councilmembers Denison,
McEvoy and Wheeler voted for candidate Aguayo.
Councilmember Tatton did not vote.
MOTION.
Councilmember Tatton moved that Mae Aguayo be accepted as the new
Councilmember. Motion seconded by
Councilmember McEvoy and carried.
